World class Danish language translation from qualified professional linguists
- Number of Danish native speakers globally: 5.6 million
- Number of countries where Danish is an official language: 4
With over 5.6 million native speakers, Danish (dansk) is a descendant of Old Norse and part of the Nordic languages group.
This North Germanic language is spoken predominantly in Denmark and a small part of northern Germany (Southern Schleswig). It is one of the two official languages of the Faroe Islands and is an officially recognised minority language in Greenland, where around a fifth of the population speak Danish as their mother tongue.
Together with Swedish and Norwegian, Danish forms part of the trio of main Scandinavian languages. The three are similar, and for highly-skilled speakers, can be mutually intelligible.
Grammarians amongst you will be interested to learn that, although verbs are conjugated in accordance with the corresponding tense, they do not change according to the subject, making for easy conjugation (until you reach the irregular verbs, of course!). The Danish alphabet has 29 letters — this includes the 26-letter Latin alphabet plus 3 additional letters (Å, Æ, and Ø).
At Alexika, we’re proud to offer professional Danish to English and English to Danish translations, as well as other language combinations including Danish. As well as being fully-qualified linguists, our translators are industry experts covering a wide range of subject areas.
With professional or technical documentation, communicating in Danish can be crucial. Danish marketing efforts can also be a very worthwhile move — the World Bank has ranked Denmark as number one in Europe for ‘ease of doing business’.
Make sure to allow flexibility in the layout of your translated documents. When translating from Danish into English, the text will typically expand by about 10-15%, depending on the subject matter. In the other direction (English to Danish), expect to see a contraction rate of 10-15%.
